Congresses passes resolution to not pass any more resolutions discussing support or objections to Bush Iraq policy

In a vote along largely partisan lines, the Senate has passed a resolution that argues that binding and non-binding measures that relate to the Iraq war should no longer be argued. The measure, crafted by Joe Lieberman and himself, passed in a 50-48 vote, with 2 senators abstaining.

“I really didn’t understand the measure at all,” said Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN), “but Ted Kennedy said he was voting for it, so I voted against it.”

Senator John McCain solidified his maverick, outsider status by voting “I don’t know” on the measure.

Lieberman decides to caucus with self in upcoming Congress

Senator Joseph Lieberman has decided that, rather than caucusing with Democrats or Republicans in the 109th Congress, he will caucusing with himself, and “keeping my own counsel.  Keeping an open mind.  Trying to rise above the partisan rancor,” he told reporters Thursday.  Though there are no other members of his current party, titled “Connecticut for Lieberman,” in Congress now, he is hoping to recruit candidates to run under the party in the 2008 election, and is hoping figures like former Presidential Candidate H. Ross Perot will express interest in the ticket.  “Either Perot, or possibly, Jesse Ventura, if he hasn’t grown too tired of politics.  Other independent thinkers.  How about Lowell Weicker?  Or (late Senator) Paul Wellstone?”

This latest example of a political calculation that is out-of-step with the national electorate is only serving to fuel long-held speculation that Lieberman is actually Geoge Bush.

With opposing camps in Connecticut the senatorial contest poised to start debates in the upcoming weeks, still unpopular and largely unnoticed Republican candidate Arthur Schlesinger is asking “Can I come too? There are voters who want to know what I think, my mother for one.” He argued to the debate commission that it is vital that voters have a forum to compare and contrast his views with candidates Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman, and “I swear I think some things different from Lieberman. He’s been a Democrat up to now. That’s just it. I’m with the other party. It’s only fair.”

To this point, the commission has not responded, on one occasion, saying they were unfamiliar with Schlesinger or his candidacy.

Why would Bush use Joe Lieberman as a secret identity

Posted in Holy Joe, political satire at 3:09 am by thewashingtonbeltsider

There have been unfounded, and unsubstantiated, reports, some appearing here, stating that Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman is actually President Bush in disguise.

This has not led many to speculate as to the reason such a charade would be beneficial to the parties in question.

Some theories making the insider rounds focus on a role the false identity plays so one can act as a “mole,” conveying secrets or legislative priorities to the opposing party.

Others, though, consider it a way for the President to brief himself on controversial intelligence matters to provide cover if Democrats ever say they were not kept informed.

“This could be what social scientists will call the age of the presidency in the period post advent of facial prosthetics,” known presidential historian Toby Winthrop said.

Lieberman slips and says it was Ned Lamont who attacked us on 9/11

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman mistakenly referred to his rival, Ned Lamont, as “the guy who attacked us on September the 11th” in his stump speech today. “Lieberman really should apologize. There’s virtually no evidence for that,” said analyst Dick Morris on FOX News.

This is in the wake of two mishaps last week, where he accidentally said Lamont was the former dictator of Iraq, and that Lamont’s distortion of Lieberman’s war stance demonstrates “a greater evil than Hitler, the communists or Satan himself.”

Lieberman loses primary, still denying he is Bush

Answering news reports that he is not an independent politician but actually a disguised President Bush, Lieberman blamed the stories on the rival political camp, while simultaneously refusing to be photographed with the President, or to talk on the phone with a reporter at the same time President Bush is on speaker phone. “I will not do that. It may be an excellent opportunity for some to engage in wild speculation, but this is a serious campaign, and after I return from Crawford, Texas…oh, excuse me. I meant New Hampshire. No, Connecticut. God, I really need some sleep. Then maybe a bike ride.”

Joe Lieberman actually is George Bush – developing

In spite of his new appeal to Democratic voters on the stump to ignore criticism from challenger Ned Lamont in the Connecticut Democratic primary, that he is not George Bush, sources are confirming that Lieberman is actually Bush, and that he dons an almost impenetrable disguise when appearing as Lieberman. Lieberman’s wife, Hadassah, a well known lobbying consultant, has professed ignorance to the arrangement to this point, but has confessed to several reporters on the campaign trail that she has been a party to this for years. “During the day, he is with me. At night, he goes home to Laura,” she was heard to say, thinking she was speaking off the record.

“If you notice, most of the appearances that show them together are from where the President has his double on display,” says Democratic consultant and former Lieberman aid Hank Greenburg. Greenburg is referring to a practice long discussed in insider circles, in that Bush is often supplanted by an alter ego, a look-alike named Ted Racine, at gatherings like his 2002 State of the Union address, where Lieberman was the recipient of a famous kiss by the President. Racine officially works for the Secret Service, and is part of a detail that protects the President in the event of threats to his safety. Several signing cermonies where the two appear together similarly occur when Bush’s double is standing in for the President.

“It is a hell of a disguise, when Bush appears in public as Lieberman,” Greenburg said, “but the truth is that they are actually the same guy. It’s a strange game they are playing here, and I haven’t seen a similar ruse in all my years of forecasting these races.”

Lieberman’s past arrest for impersonating a Republican comes to light

Posted in Holy Joe, political satire at 1:59 pm by thewashingtonbeltsider

Documents released under the Freedom of Information act show that Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman was arrested in 1998 for impersonating a Republican congressman.  Mr. Lieberman was apprehended by officers outside the office of Pete Nichols (R-GA) wearing a dark wig and sunglasses (though Congressman Nichols, in fact, has white hair), during a time when the congressman had been missing for more than a month.

Mr. Lieberman was remanded to FBI headquarters by officers investigating Nichols’ recent disappearance.  (It was found out later that Representative Nichols had been abducted by a jealous ex-girlfriend).  The police report says that Mr. Lieberman was released on his own recognizance, and that he had only sought to adopt the congressman’s identity for a short time, so he could vote a second time for impeachment of former President Clinton.  He was released , and no further charges were filed.

This is not the first time Senator Lieberman has tried to aborgate positions of the opposition party for himself.  In 2005 and 2006, he has voted with the opposing party’s majority on issues such as appointment of conservative judges to the federal bench, school vouchers, enactment of the President’s faith-based initiative, and placing new restrictions on Walt Disneyland so that the Ronald Reagan library could be called “The Happiest Place on Earth.” (“I need to support my Prresident’s party on this one,” he said at the time.”)  The revelation of this latest incident will further alienate Connecticut voters as he seeks to secure his party’s nomination for his Senate seat.

Lieberman excuses himself from traffic court, says ticket does not appply to him

Connecticut Senator Joseph I. Lieberman told a Washington DC court today that a speeding ticket he received does not apply to him, and he would choose instead that the city’s streets not be denied his skills as a driver should his driving privileges be contested. “I am not a speeder, no matter what the spedometer said,” he told Judge Spinnet Wilder. “I can’t wait to abide by this court’s decision.”

He was subsequently tracked down and taken into custody by state decency standards officials, so experts could conduct a mental competency evaluation.
