The White House issued an official denial that Mary Cheney’s daughter was conceived by immaculate conception, as some religious conservatives have argued, and that the father is here on Earth. Evangelical leaders Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson had speculated as to the child’s parentage on Robertson’s “700 Club” Program earier in the day. “We’re sorry about any confusion this may have caused,” spokeswoman Mary Matalin said. Reverend Robertson and Reverend Falwell were a little off on their information on this. We wil continue to clarify as things progress for her. The Vice-President and his wife are very supportive of Mary and their grandchild.”

Matalin refused to address rumors indicating the father may be a wolf, remniniscent of the father of the child, Damian, in “The Omen” films, which featured Gregory Peck and Lee Remick.
