Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld admitted today that a report out of Germany that he and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will be tried for war crimes for the suspected prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib presents an “unknown known.”  “I will tell you, there is a lot we know about the criminal justice system, in many respects, some that are known knowns, some that are known unknowns, and lastly, many that are unknown unknowns.  Like we had in Iraq.  Now there is much we know that we did not know there.  Some may be illegal.  Some may be known to be illegal, and some may be illegal but we did not know it at the time.  Do Gonzales and I think that is just or fair?  Hell no.  Do we want to be executed?  Maybe, maybe not.  Is that what European authorities expect?  Again, that is an unknown known.”

He referred other questions on the matter to cartoon character Mr. Magoo.
