Republican Congressman John Boehner is firing back at John Kerry over a “knock-knock” joke he told a crowd at a packed conventional hall in California yesterday.

“Knock knock, who’s there? Ira. Ira who? Iraq is a bad place to be right now, isn’t it?” Kerry dead-panned to a mix of jeers and silence. The former Democratic presidential candidate tried to allay concerns about his comments by claiming he was referring to Congressional Republicans and the President and not the increasingly strained American military forces. This is in the aftermath of a previous botched joke that many felt was disrespectful to the military.

“How dare he disparage our troops at this time, on the eve of an election. It furthers this notion of the Democrats as the ‘cut and run’ Democrats,” Boehner said to Neil Cavuto on the “Our World” segment on FOX News.. “John Kerry and his demoralizing propagandizing of our troops is all part of a coordinated strategy to lose this war on terror.”

President Bush is expected to address the Kerry joke in an Oval Office address tonight at 5:00 pm.
