Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has confirmed that many in the administration are supporting deploying “some high profile, influential, big deal muckety-muck type people” to work with North Korea, in the face of their escalating nuclear ambitions. When asked if she was considering representatives of the current administration, she said “Oh heavens no, because we don’t negotiate with outlaw regimes,” and she pointed towards former Presidents Bush and Carter as having the necessary gravitas to speak for the United States in negotiating a settlement, with added support by the UN.

Neither Bono, nor entertainers John Bon Jovi or Sean Penn, known for other diplomatic efforts on behalf of the United States, are being considered now, but may be considered at a later time.
