Bush’s Poll Numbers Rise Again “Because the Guy’s Scaring the Shit Out of Me”
by Tom Toburn
After weeks of speeches and developments in the war on terror that have been favorable to the administration, the administration can take comfort that the President’s poll numbers are starting to reap gains. A majority of poll respondents answered that they were “very scared,” almost 13% higher than previous polling from February 2006 on this question, and say that if Congress does not retain its Republican majority in both houses, they will be equally or more scared. By contrast, when asked if they were scared by the Democrats, the majority answered “never” or “not that much,” except when asked specifically about Howard Dean, whom 54% see as scary.
Chuck Taber of Tallahassee nicely illustrated the tenor of the polling, saying “(It’s) because the guy’s scaring the shit out of me,” referring to Bush, “and if voting for this party means an end to the speeches, well then so be it. I’ll vote Republican.”
The Republicans hope to translate this movement in the polls into electoral victories in November.
