On the 5th anniversary of the September 11 Twin Tower attacks, President Bush somberly addressed the nation tonight, and said “We are now facing the struggle of our time, the mission of our lifetime, and I hope you don’t just think I’m being corny this time.”

He strained to avoid hyperbole as he progressed.  “No,” he continued, “this is the humdinger, the most stupendous of callings, a surreptitious moment, a grave and fanciful, unbeatable, glorious calling.  And we are equal to it.  God bless us all.”

There was no Democratic response today.  Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid announced that the Democrats will deliver a speech tomorrow from the Capitol steps, and said “it will be a humdinger too, by golly, Mr. Bush.”
