Bush starting to distance self from Bush Iraq policy

In the text of some of his upcoming speeches, it is increasingly clear that President Bush is attempting to distance himself from his own Iraq policy. He refers to the “stay the course” perogative twice in one of the speeches as “the Cheney approach, not my idea,” and even downplays the “stay and adjust” slogan the administration has advocated in other settings (calling it “stay and adjust, and then just pack it in if necessary” at one point).

Administration sources requesting anonymity, like Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, say this is on the advice of Karl Rove. Rove’s polling is finding the electorate “less skittish” on matters of security and war, plus Bush and Rove have tired of Congressional allies distancing themselves, and never calling to golf with them anymore.
