Since the capture and apprehension of Hamed Jumaa Farid al-Saeedi Sunday, it has been announced that Hal Needham, former stuntman and director of Burt Reynolds’ “Smokey and the Bandit” films, will take his place.

His agent, Ted Stallworth, does not know why Needham’s name was next in line in the terrorist organization, but is grateful that they called now while the former stuntman and director is between projects. The well-known “Smokey and the Bandit” series, as well as the “Cannonball Run” features in the 1980s, were tremendous hits for the director, the most recent, “Cannonball Run II” in 1984, grossing almost $30 million in the United States alone.

“This is taking me by surprise,” Needham said, through his agent. “I haven’t been called up for any work in a couple of years. They’re an absolutely awful organization, but I’m glad they thought of me, and it would probably be foolish to decline, after they’ve gone to the trouble of contacting my agent, et cetera.”
