Nearing the first anniversary of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast, President Bush said “Oops,” when queried by White House reporters aboard Air Force One about the still somewhat dormant re-building efforts. “I thought Karl had this thing covered. Corpulent bastard. ”

“Well, the thing is, there’s time to do this thing, just maybe work weekends and everything. We can get more guys.”

Long criticized for lacking the community support needed to be a successful re-building effort, Bush denied that reliance on outside contractors and companies plays a role in the slow pace of the recovery efforts. “In fact, I’m told we’ve been picking up guys outside Home Depot to help.” After conferring with aids, he noted there is not an open Home Depot in New Orleans, but said “there is one in Shrieveport Louisiana, and that is very close.”
