Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice triumphantly announced that the administration has answered critics’ call for a US role in negotiations, but admits to a State Department feeling adrift, now that they can’t bomb anyone.
“Okay, we’re trying with negotiating,” she said. “Now what? All our experts are abandoning us. I forget, the next thing was fire Rumsfeld, wasn’t it? We don’t know what to do next.”

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, long perplexed by the role Shiites and Sunnis play in an increasingly fractious Iraq, responded, “Maybe I could work over at Treasury. Or Commerce. Is there an opening anywhere else?”
