Latest Bin Laden video makes prominent use of product placement

The latest video released by Osama Bin Laden, in addition to threats and polemic against Israel and the west, shows prominent placement of Emerald brand cigarettes and Dubai Creek Cola.  It seems increasingly likely that the production values on these videos is enhanced because the companies that make these products are helping Al Qaeda financially as they may benefit from their wide exposure on the internet and in the news from their placement in these spots.

An Al Qaeda spokesman denies these charges, and says “Western capitalism is the devil.  We seek the destruction of commerce and capital and all secular institutions, without distinction, praise Allah,” but Bin Laden describes the cigarettes as “smooth, refreshing, without aftertaste” in the latest video, and on a previous video, says he feels his movement is gaining in power, immediately after seen sipping from a Dubai Cola.

For their part, RJR Reynolds, who produces the cigarettes and cola products, has denied any role in placing their products in the spots or supporting the terrorist movement.
