Bush rescinds veto, issues signing statement on stem cell bill that says, “I forbid it”

After resistance from liberal press sources, like The Washington Post, and fringe members of the scientific community, like physician groups and researchers, President Bush has decided to rescind his veto on the congressional stem cell bill, but to let it pass with a signing statement that disallows stem cell research.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales again defends the use of signing statements as justified under the war powers act, and as deriving from his constitutional authority as chief executive and commander-in-chief and, reportedly, because”he said he’s ‘the decider’.”
