Senator Joseph R. Biden (D-MA) is not seen as a front-runner for the Democratic nomination. Though he has been known to be a fluent and forceful advocate for some core principles of the Democratic party, and has national campaign experience, it is likely that his controversial vote in favor of going to war with Iraq, and a recent unfortunate choice for bright green hair plugs, will hinder his efforts in the early stages of the nomination process.

UPDATE: In addition, his recent show of appreciation for the support of Indian Americans by describing them as great operators of 7/11 stores and Dunkin Donuts outlets has done little to open the way to a new, potentially untapped voting constituency.

UPDATE II: Biden attempted toclarify his statements about Indian Americanson on C-SPAN’s “Road to the White House” today.  “I could have said the same thing about Italian-Americans and eateries,…or…can someone here help me stop opening my mouth?  Please?  Anyone?”
