White House officials are denying that politics are at play in renewed effortsto have House leaders adopt a measure that asserts that Senator John Kerry is a communist. “This measure is vital for national security,” one anonymous White House official insisted, “and politics are in no way at play here.”

Vice President Cheney has long been a proponent of the Kerrey measure, House bill 222, which was first introduced during the Nixon administration.

Karl Rove, after weeks of strategy sessions with Republican leaders, has established a trifecta of initiatives for congress to adopt in coming months: the Kerry bill, a measure that will allow states to remove voters from voter rolls who are former Kerrey suppporters or of former Senator Estes Kefauver, and a bill that will allow government documents to refer to the Democratic party as the “terrorist-lover national party.”

“This is an outrage.  Also, I’m not a communist,” Kerry said, through a spokesperson.
