Connecticut Senator Joseph I. Lieberman told a Washington DC court today that a speeding ticket he received does not apply to him, and he would choose instead that the city’s streets not be denied his skills as a driver should his driving privileges be contested. “I am not a speeder, no matter what the spedometer said,” he told Judge Spinnet Wilder. “I can’t wait to abide by this court’s decision.”

He was subsequently tracked down and taken into custody by state decency standards officials, so experts could conduct a mental competency evaluation.
